Basics

The bare minimum you should know:

• Spaces are like Discord servers.
• Rooms are like Discord channels.
• Your username should something that you would feel comfortable giving to other people to connect with you. Do not pick something that you would not also use as an e-mail alias to communicate with others. This cannot be changed but your display name can be changed at any time.
• Enable secure backup and cross-signing or you risk losing access to your historical messages.
• Save your security key somewhere safe or you risk losing access to your historical messages. A good place to keep this is in a password manager.

Other

Extra stuff that might interest some people:

• This Matrix homeserver is currently being run for the purpose of evaluation. There is no guarantee that data will persist beyond this period.
• Stick to the Element clients for the best compatibility but feel free to try others like FluffyChat.
